P5 post-production processes

Adobe premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing software application.It is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud,which includes video editing,graphic design,and web development programs.

The post-production process involves collecting all of the footage and audio, editing it all together into a complete project, and applying effects and transitions to make it look complete and good. My document was set up the following way:

 First of all,I create a folder to save all my work.Secondly,I created a new sequence with 1080p24 quality and made sure the capture format is HDV.

Logging rushes / Creating edit decision list

The shot list would help me to select the shot which is the most important and the story board would tell me what is the step of the filming.For example,I need to start with the boy running on the track and edit it and then go to the next step which is the bus station part.It help me to have a clear order of these shot and always tell me what to do next.It's a very useful tool.

This is the folder that I save all the materials,in this folder,I created 4 different to save different shots differentiated by 4 locations.Then I go to each folders select the video which I'm going to use.And I mark them and rename them.

Logging rushes involves uploading all of the video and audio of a project and then renaming each file so that it is easily recognizable for editing. The edit decision list involves cutting out unnecessary video and audio that won’t make it in to the final project. Sometimes, when planning a project, the writer imagines more scenes then are actually needed. It can be shortened in editing through cutting scenes without compromising continuity.

I renamed the shots that I need to edit the video.The rename process is simple but very helpful in the editing process because I can find the shot which I want much quicker and easier for me to change.It benefit for me to save time and improve the quality of the video.

Producing and reviewing an off line edit

 After the decision and selection,I start to put the shot into this project.

At the top part,this is the tool sets.The first tool is called selected tool,which allows  me to import and select my videos.The 6th tool is called razor tool,it would allow me to cut down the video and change the length of the videos.The second last tool is called hand tool,it allows me to drag and move the videos on the track.

Producing an offline edit means to put all of the raw footage in the order that they will appear in the final project. This happens before effects and transitions are added to any of the scenes. Reference is made to the original storyboard to piece everything together. This sets up the film to be ready for editing.

Here I have included some screenshots of the editing timeline. From these examples it is possible to see how the project is constructed.

Applying Visual and Audio Effects

For an advertisement video,I decided to control the time between 1:30 to 2:00 would be perfect,the for I speed up many shots.For example,the running part and cars moving on the street (front of bus station) this would short the time to reduce the cost and make sure when people watch it,they always focus most with the main project (Ferrero Chocolate).

For example,this short was costing 34:07 sec to play and after 500% speed up and only cost 6:20 sec.Otherwise,if I didn't speed up the shorts like this,firstly the viewer would think this is boring and won't focus on the main product (Ferrero Chocolate) and secondly the cost would increase (longer time longer cost).

Purpose and meaning of applying visual effects

In filmmaking, visual effects (abbreviated VFX) are the processes by which imagery is created and / or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot.

Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, expensive, impractical, or simply impossible to capture on film. Visual effects using computer generated imagery have recently become accessible to the independent filmmaker with the introduction of affordable and easy-to-use animation and compositing software.

Visual effects are often integral to a movie's story and appeal. Although most visual effects work is completed during post-production, it usually must be carefully planned and choreographed in pre-production and production. Visual effects primarily executed in Post-Production with the use of multiple tools and technologies such as graphic design, modeling, animation and similar software, while special effects such as explosions and car chases are made on set.

Visual and audio effects can help enhance the beauty of a film as well as help to tell the story better by adding elements you can’t just record in real life. They can also help correct any mistakes that were made in the process of recording video and audio.

Linking audio to visuals and applying audio effects

I muted all the sound from original sound because I didn't give anything for actor to say out.And I added the background music which I already downloaded and put it into Audio Channel 3.

I added a lowpass to the first music track.This effect would allow the song sounds more suitable as a starter.

The meaning and purpose of Audio

Audio is sound within the acoustic range available to humans. An audio frequency (AF) is an electrical alternating current within the 20 to 20,000 hertz (cycles per second) range that can be used to produce acoustic sound. In computers, audio is the sound system that comes with or can be added to a computer. An audio card contains a special built-in processor and memory for processing audio files and sending them to speakers in the computer. An audio file is a record of captured sound that can be played back. Sound is a sequence of naturally analog signals that are converted to digital signals by the audio card, using a microchip called an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). When sound is played, the digital signals are sent to the speakers where they are converted back to analog signals that generate varied sound.

Audio files are usually compressed for storage or faster transmission Audio files can be sent in short stand-alone segments -.. For example, as files in the Wave file format In order for users to receive sound in real-time for a multimedia effect, listening to music, or in order to take part in an audio or video conference, sound must be delivered as streaming sound. More advanced audio cards support wavetable, or precaptured tables of sound. The most popular audio file format today is MP3

 The boy was running and far and far,and the screen become blurry and then the trees come out.

For these shots, I added additive dissolve effect between these videos,which allows the viewer notice that they are going to the next location (court part was going to finish and the street part should begin).This would make the videos more interesting and attractive.

I used the same effect again which linked the bus station part with the street part.Between these two part,I used a shot of taking the sun and trees to make a transition effect.At the end of the trees and sun short,we can see the trees become blurry and a boy comes out.

 When I edit the street part (the girl was following the boy behind) I used a color correction effect.I only used the effect when the boy was having a close shot.This is because I want to prominent the innermost thoughts in this boy's mind.(He was happy about the girl and he was nervous,because he didn't know how to say he likes the girl as well in words,he was thinking and considering how to turn around and face the girl.)

I believe this effect would be perfectly suitable to put here to show the mind of the boy thinking and make the video much more interesting.

 For the end of this video,I added a dissolve (dip to black) effect to finish.This is the final location at the street.After the boy give back Ferro Chocolate to the girl.With the time going on,the screen became dark and dark till whole black.This is the ending of this video,this effect would allow viewer to have a think what will have next which means would allow people to have a space to do their own thinking for this story with Ferro Chocolate.

Finally,I added the text into this video.

 I added the text to apply the Chinese letter (translate),and I rotated it to the same angle.

There are many different styles of text format to choose.

I found the advertisement sentence from the official website and I used it to do the text to apply the Ferrero advertisement video.

I selected the gold color to put at the end of this video.This applied same style from the Ferrero Rocher logo.

P4 production material & techniques for an audio/visual unit

P4 Production Material and Techniques for an Audio/Visual Unit
Setting up appropriate equipment;

As a student at Kent College, I have access to the equipment available to media students. I used the Canon 7D DSLR. I have used this camera before and I am used to its settings and features. I feel confident using this camera. I like the 85mm fixed lens because in many of the scenes I played with aperture settings to create shots with different focuses.

The 85mm lens is not made for zooming in and out of a subject, it is made for altering the focus. Aperture is the control of how much light enters the lens. A larger f stop means a smaller hole, which means less light is entering the camera, which means there will be a large depth of field.

This shot, for example, was created by using a small f stop. It keeps the focus on the actor and not the long stairs he is sitting on. Although the background is not invisible, as it establishes where the actor is and how he is surrounded by people even though he is alone, it is blurred out. This keeps the attention on the actor and also further shows how he is lonely and focused on the presents he is getting rather than the world around him. The equipment you use can help you create shots like this, establish mood, and say things that words alone cannot properly say.

I also used the Velbon DV-6000 video tripod. This allowed me to keep the equipment safe while also providing steady and consistent shots for the various scenes in the film.

Use of pre-production material as reference;

Meaning and Purpose;

The meaning and purpose of this task is to demonstrate what we used the pre-production material for and how effective it was when developing my video. This section shows what the storyboards, script, booking sheet, production schedule and shot list were used for. These image below show how we compared our storyboards with our shots and tried to capture shots as close to what we intended.

During the filming process , it was very helpful to have the storyboard and script to refer to when determining what the next shot was and it tells what needed to be done next.The use of this pre-production material helped us to plan the next step and know exactly what we wanted to do and achieve for the 'next' scene/shot.

For the beginning of the video,the storyboard tells me what to do.Because of the schedule shows the filming would takes 2 days and  the shot list would provide me with step-by-step instructions on what I would be filming, in a particular order.

After the first day filming in the track,we went to the bus station,and according to the planning (storyboard and shot list),I took a Medium Long shot for them waiting for the bus.

According to the storyboard,I took a medium close up shot for this while they sitting in the bus.

The second filming,I took boy running in the track again,but this time,I decided to do a extreme wide shot.

According to the storyboard,I put the prop at the side of the track and direct the boy to do the movement.

According to the storyboard,I put the props in the exactly position.And gave it a extremely close shot to make sure people would be able to read the note.

For these part,according to the location planing,we found a route where there is usually not many people.This would be really helpful for us to filming.

For this part,I put an advertising slogan at the side for the main project (Ferrero Rocher).

Production Schedule;

When filming, we referred to a production schedule that we put together, to help us determine what we were supposed to be filming of which day and in each location. This made it easier for us to produce the film and allowed us to operate efficiently as we knew all the time what the next step was for us to take.

Shot list;

This pre-production material was very useful during the production process. Referring back to this piece of work helped us to gage what the next shot we needed to create was. Using this along with the storyboards, we had a very clear idea of what we were trying to capture from each image and shot. We wrote in the shot list, everything that wanted to be in the shot which during the filming process helped us to work effectively, reducing the amount of time wasted when not filming.

Following safe working practises;

The risks we identified were either low or moderate risks. Nothing in the project was high risk. Still, we didn’t want to deal with any issues of health and safety or equipment damage, so we followed our plan precisely to ensure no one got hurt and no equipment got damaged.

To make sure no one got hurt, we informed the people around us that we were filming to the best of our ability. This made people aware of the process and encouraged them to stay away from it. We were also very obvious in our filming as we had a camera set up and were repeatedly doing the same task.

We checked the equipment each time we took it out of a bag. We made sure everything was there so that we did not get blamed for damaged or lost items before we started filming. We did the same thing when putting all of the equipment back, making sure there was no damage and nothing was left behind. We made sure that the camera was always safely secured into the tripod so that any movement would not knock the camera over. We also made sure we had a flat surface for the tripod so that it did not get knocked over itself.

Although we needed to film at a time that there was other people around, we made sure our actor was comfortable with running and we made sure he had an empty area of track to run along. This way, we made sure that he didn’t get tired or sick from the scene, and also that he did not injure himself or anyone else. We also made sure that the track wasn’t too busy by using it at a lunch period instead of after school when people were using it or during a class.

Following production process:

Day 1:
We started off by checking the area, to scan whether there were any health and safety hazards we needed to be aware of.The first shot was in the track,therefore we began to shot after school to ensure there are less people to help us easier to film.

The second shot is the bus station.We choose one of the bus station normally with less people and during the filming process,we followed the risk assessment to take care of the incoming cars to ensure the safety of all the crew.

Day 2:

To start the filming next day,we went to the track area again to take another shot of the boy running on the track according to the storyboard and we make a lot of following shot and during the filming process,we ensure that taking care of the equipment and take care to avoid slip over.

There was another shot that the boy picked up the Ferrero around the track according to the storyboard.Therefore,I prepared the the bottle of water and Ferrero (according to the prop list) and put at the position where I wanted to be in the film.

Then we went to the last location to film the most important part of the video.

There are a lots of reaction shot , close shot and over shoulder shot.But the storyboard help me to film it easier because it tells what is next step and what shot shall I take for each part. And it's easier for me to direct crew to do what they need.
